Matthew 16:26

26For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life [his blessed life in the kingdom of God]? Or what would a man give as an exchange for his [blessed] life [in the kingdom of God]?

1 John 2:16-17

16For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh [craving for sensual gratification] and the lust of the eyes [greedy longings of the mind] and the pride of life [assurance in one's own resources or in the stability of earthly things]--these do not come from the Father but are from the world [itself]. 17And the world passes away and disappears, and with it the forbidden cravings (the passionate desires, the lust) of it; but he who does the will of God and carries out His purposes in his life abides (remains) forever.

Not sure why I decided to do this, but just felt that it's been on my heart. Haha. Well... Most girls (including me) love shopping, so this entry is gonna serve as a reminder (to me) for what i'm really here for and that this world isn't everything. =) (and also to try to curb un-necessary spending. Lol)
Pastor was sharing something interesting with us on Sunday, but i'm not gonna share the entire message, will leave that for another post.=)
1 tim 2:9
... modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing...
It got me convicted cos lately i've been quite into brand names that are expensive when I really don't need to spend that type of money. It's also true that Paul if writing to us would be writing to us regarding status symbols. So things like expensive brand names would come into play. Moving on to....
1 tim 2:10
but, which is proper for women (and men) professing godliness, with good works.
Basically, the point is not to get obsessed with status symbols and if you wanna look good, reflect God's light!! ^-^(How to reflect God's light may be covered in another post) Often, when we draw away from God, we try and use all sorts of things to convince ourself that He doesn't matter. A big example would be through shopping and buying expensive things to make ourselves feel good (also known as giving in to materialism). BUT it really doesn't work and instead, all you feel is emptiness or a sort of void and that there's gotta be something more.
[insert Stacie Orrico's "There's gotta be more to life, than chasing down every temporary high"]
And to end this post...
"We don't get good to get God, we get God to get good"
No matter what we do wrong, God is always willing to forgive us (as long as we confess and sincere repent) and to help us do better. ^-^ I'm thankful for such a God.
and last but not least....
"Life is more than money... Time was never money... Time was never cash.
Life is still more than girls.... Life is more than hundred-dollar bills...
Life is more than fame and rock and roll and thrills..."
